A Day at the Animal Shelter
Emma volunteers at the local animal shelter every Saturday. She loves animals and wants to help take care of them. This Saturday, Emma arrives early in the morning. The shelter has many dogs, cats, and some rabbits.
Emma starts by feeding the animals. She gives food and water to each cage. After feeding, she cleans the cages. It is hard work, but Emma enjoys it because she knows the animals need a clean home.
Later, Emma plays with the dogs in the yard. One dog, named Lucky, is very shy. Emma sits quietly and talks to him. Slowly, Lucky comes closer and wags his tail. Emma feels happy that she can make him feel safe.
At noon, Emma helps with a new dog that just arrived. The dog is scared and doesn’t want to eat. Emma stays near the dog and reads a story from her book. The dog listens and seems calmer.
Before she leaves, Emma checks that all the animals have enough water and blankets. She writes notes about Lucky and the new dog for the shelter staff. Emma knows that her small actions make a big difference.
On her way home, Emma thinks about how she can bring more people to help the shelter. Maybe next week, she will organize a fundraiser. Emma smiles; she feels proud to be a friend to animals in need.
